WHEN I moved in to my new home in Brixton, South London, friends joked I'd have to send half my wardrobe to a car boot sale. But I was determined to prove that a small space doesn't have to mean sacrificing on style - or shoes. All I needed was meticulous planning, space-saving furniture and a clever colour scheme...
Beautify Your Bedroom Utilizing Feng Shui:The solution: Clear out the furniture The first thing to go was my big wood-framed bed. Instead I found a clever space-saving four- foot bed at Taurus. The wooden frame is the same size as the mattress, which fits under the headboard so it doesn't add to the length. I installed Ikea wall shelves and rows of smaller shelves next to the bed to create a compact bedside table. I even found room for my telly - on the wall opposite the bed.MY VERDICT: The colours have brightened up a gloomy room and the clever storage has let me squeeze everything in without compromising on style. no car boot sale for me... though I did take a bag or two down to my local charity shop.The challenge: Storage I'm no Imelda Marcos but it's safe to say the existing wardrobe wasn't going to suffice.The dressing table should not be positioned in the foot of a bed as it adversely impacts health. Move the dressing table to any other position.A light bulb directly over the head of the bed will turn the sleeper in to a nervous wreck. If hung over the centre of the bed, it'll cause stomach disorders. The light ought to be positioned to the side of the bed.From this.. ..to thisAccurate linen, which is stronger than any other organic fiber has actually been dated back to the stone age. It has also been found that the linen wrappings from Egyptian mummies are nonetheless pliable, thousands of years later. The more linen is used the softer it becomes. The small window meant it didn't get much light and the Venetian blind shut off what little extra space the bay window provided.Flannel sheets come in all types of colours and designs and are favored by numerous for comfortable chilly weather sleeping. 100% cotton well produced flannel sheets will "puff up" following washing feeling softer with every washing.White shelves against white walls provided me with a blank canvas to show off my books, pictures and ornaments. Made-to-measure curtains helped open up the space on the window ledge. I chose a gorgeous vintage-style Persian print from KAI which I had custom- made by Curtainsmadesimple.co.uk. The wardrobe doors are sliding panels in shimmery KAI fabric.Square or rectangular shaped headboards are for people who represent wood and earth elements. It's also good for professionals, as it encourages stability and offers support.Angular headboards or these with spiked points, these are not recommended for anyone. It relates to the element fire. It prevents people from getting a great night's rest.
